About I Love Phonics Tutoring

I Love Phonics Tutoring is the private literacy tutoring practice of Montour Falls resident, Casey Easterling, who is also the co-owner of Grandma's Kitchen, an all vegan cafe and bakery, also located in Montour Falls, New York. 


Casey began I Love Phonics Tutoring after opening Grandma's Kitchen and realizing that she did not want to let her passion for literacy go despite opening a new cafe!


Located on the Second Floor above Grandma's Kitchen, I Love Phonics Tutoring offers:

  • Private Literacy Tutoring

  • Semi-Private Literacy Tutoring

  • Small Group Literacy Lessons


Casey draws from her formal and informal education, as well as her career as an educator and reading coach in New York City, in order to offer explicit literacy instruction planned specifically for the needs of her clients focusing on Phonemic Awareness, Phonics, Fluency, Vocabulary, Comprehension, and Writing.


Teaching Experience

  • Educator with the New York City Department of Education for 16 years

  • English as a Second Language Teacher in Kindergarten through Fifth Grades

  • Second Grade Teacher

  • Universal Literacy Reading Coach

  • In-person and virtual teaching and tutoring in private practice,  at the New York University Literacy Clinic, and as a classroom teacher with the New York City Department of Education

  • Creating science learning segments for "Let’s Learn" on PBS/WNET/Channel 13 

Formal Education

  • Master of Arts in Literacy for children from Birth through 6th Grade from New York University

  • Master of Arts in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) & Foreign Language Education from New York University

  • Post-Undergraduate French at Kent State University in Kent, Ohio

  • Bachelor of Arts in Biology with a Minor in French from The University of Akron in Akron, Ohio

When Casey is not teaching literacy or working at Grandma's Kitchen, she enjoys spending time with her family including her partner, Mike, her kids, Noel and Emry, and her dog, Tucker. Casey loves going to fairs and amusement parks. She is passionate about spreading love through food, veganism, composting, Christmas, her church, her family in Ohio, books, journaling, New York City, traveling, Pictionary, and her Montour Falls community.
